  • By eating the foods that are right for us as individuals ( as we all have different needs and requirements ). It is possible to improve the digestive system and the body’s ability to absorb its food. This helps to balance nutrients naturally and improve the body’s ability to eliminate toxins and waste products.

The aim of nutritional therapy Nottingham is to work on the symptoms that you may be experiencing, finding the underlying cause and then managing, reducing and even preventing the problem from re-occurring. Nutritional Therapy works on strengthening the immune system, so that your body’s own defence mechanism can fight off infection.

    What is a balanced diet?
This is a very good question and the jury is still out on this but according to a National Survey in 1995 the average person in Britain is severely deficient in 6 out of 8 important vitamins and minerals. A large proportion of society is severely deficient in Zinc, a vital mineral. So why is this happening? A lot of this is to do with how our food is manufactured. For example 80% of zinc is taken out of wheat in the milling process to ensure that a loaf of bread has a longer shelf life.

If you are suffering from lack of energy, headaches, insomnia, aching joints, mood swings, cravings for certain types of foods, bloating or flatulence, then nutritional therapy could help you.

What happens in a Nutritional Therapy Nottingham session?
Before your first session, you will be asked to complete a confidential Nutrtional Therapy questionnaire and return it to the Nutritional Therapist before your appointment and a pre-addressed envelope will be provided. This enables the nutrtional therapist to start work on your issues before seeing you, allowing more time within the session.

Your first nutritional therapy session will last approximately 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes and will consist of a confidential in depth consultation in which you will be able to discuss your health concerns, physical symptoms, lifestyle and present eating patterns.

Using this information, any underlying imbalances in your body can be discussed together with your nutritional therapist and any dietary changes and supplements (if required) will also be agreed upon at this time. You will also be given information sheets to help with the changes. The nutrtional therapist will be available over the phone or via e-mail in between appointments to assist you if required.

A follow up appointment is usually recommended in 4 and 6 weeks to check on your progress and make any adjustments that are required.

Good nutritional health is about vitality, good energy levels, being free of pain and enjoying life.

Commonly asked questions about Nutritional Therapy

Will the programme be difficult to stick to?
No! with the right support. It is important to remember that this is not a diet in the sense that you are restricting yourself, it is more about a lasting change of lifestyle. The change in diet will provide you with the optimum amount of nutrients that YOUR body needs to maximise your health. Every programme is tailored to you as an individual and will take into account your lifestyle there is very little point in creating a diet that you cannot stick to.

What is the difference between a nutritional therapist and a dietician?
Nutritional therapists work with optimum amounts of nutrients which are the amount needed by you as an individual to deal with any health issues and promote the body’s ability to maintain optimum health. A dietician works on recommended daily amounts of RDA’s as laid down by the government to prevent such diseases as scurvy or beriberi.

Do I have to take supplements?
It is entirely your choice, however you may find that it is beneficial to do so to boost your bodies intake of nutrients whilst you are changing your diet. In some situations it may be difficult to get all the nutrients you need, especially with the way that many of our foods are processed today. Your nutritional therapist will help you on this.

What if I am taking prescribed medication?
It is important that you let your practitioner know what you are taking in case there are any contra-indications so that they can tailor make the programme to your needs.

Will I have to cut a lot of foods out of my diet?
This will depend on the health issues that you are presenting with, it is important to focus on the idea that you may need to substitute foods and add more variety into your diet. The focus will not be on restricting foods unless absolutely necessary for your health. The aim is to provide you with the right diet that will allow you to achieve your goals.
