What is Psychotherapy Nottingham and could it help me?
Psychotherapy at the Wellbeing Clinic Nottingham can involve counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, psychotherapy or psychoanalysis, and involve talking and listening. For the majority of us this means that we want someone who will listen to us and who we can listen to. For some people it is easier to talk to a psychotherpist than those who are closest to us such as friends and family. Some psychotherapists work slightly differently some will try to establish the root cause of the problem and help you to deal with these others will look at changing negative thought and behaviour patterns, or they may just be there to support you.
The important thing to bear in mind is that the psychotherapist is there to listen to YOU they are not there to judge you; they will help you to find your own answers to problems. People will come to see psychotherapists for lots of different reasons it may be for something specific, to help you through a difficult time in your life.

What happens in a psychotherapyNottingham session?
The format of a psychotherapy session will vary slightly depending on the therapy, but generally sessions are structured in a way that allows the client to talk freely about the problem or issues concerning them. The psychotherapist may prompt the client to expand on or look more closely at certain issues and guide them to develop steps or goals that will help them to take control of a situation or their emotions.

  • Commonly asked questions

    Is psychotherapy confidential?
The answer to this is yes as all psychotherapists are bound by a code of ethics at no point will your work or family be contacted. There are however a few exceptions, if a child is in danger or if you are in immediate danger yourself or are likely to harm any one else or you are going to break the law.

How many sessions of psychotherapy will I need?
The number of sessions you will require will depend on the difficulties you are experiencing, relief of symptoms may be acheived within a few sessions depending on your difficulties, to work on more lasting thought patterns will take longer.

Is my problems ‘important’ enough for psychotherapy?
No problem is too large or to small the therapist is not there to make any judgments about your problems.

If I want to make an appointment how long will I have to wait?
Usually you can be seen within a week, if you wish to see a specific counsellor or need an evening appointment you may have to wait 2-3 weeks.

If I need further psychotherapy will I see the same person?
The answer to this is yes, unless for some reason you did not get on with the therapist or the therapist thought you would be better suited seeing someone else. In these instances this would be discussed with you to ensure you were happy with the arrangements.

How long will the appointment last?
Appointments last between 50 and 60 min

Guidelines for those new to psychotherapy treatment
In the early stage of psychotherapy it is not unsual to experience a "honeymoon period" this effect of symptom relief may feel good. But it is important not to stop psychotherapy at this time, without getting to the source of the problem, you may replace existing problems with other issues.
During psychotherapy it is not unsual for a time to feel worse before you feel better, when therapy feels difficult it is important not to give up - be honest with our therapist and discuss your feelings and reactions this will help you move forward.
