Balance Hormones Naturally
1. Avoid Toxins
Toxins found in pesticides, household chemicals, plastic bottles and takeaway containers all contain hormone disrupting chemicals that mimic our hormones and stop the body from producing real ones.
2. Take Coconut Oil
Coconut oil helps with hormone production, assists with weight loss, reduces inflammation and has antibacterial properties. Try oil pulling, adding the oil to tea or coffee, or just downing a spoonful in the morning.
3. Limit caffeine
Excessive caffeine raises cortisol levels and slows down thyroid function. If you really can’t live without a caffeine kick, make sure you take your caffeine with some good fats… See the post about coconut oil above!
4. Avoid Soy
Soy is everywhere now, and even if you don’t eat tofu or drink soya milk you are more than likely getting too much of it from other sources. Soybean oil is used in most packaged and processed foods, mayonnaise and salad dressings. Most of the meat and dairy we consume is from animals fed on soy. Soy is a goitrogen, which blocks the iodine uptake, and iodine is important for good thyroid health and function.
5. Get More Sleep.
7-8 hours is necessary for good hormone function. Also, cortisol is regulated at midnight, so people who go to bed late never get a break from the sympathetic fight/flight response, which can lead to chronic stress and adrenal fatigue. An hours sleep between 10pm and 2am is as good as two hours at any other time, so try to get your head down before 10pm to help restore your hormonal balance.
